Fighting it

The headache started Sunday night and I tried to convince myself I wasn’t really sick. That’s because it’s a busy week with much to look forward to, like the youth gangs meeting on Wednesday night and my first facial on Thursday night and the Cirque du Soleil on Saturday night. And also because it was my new boss’ first day on Monday.

How to make friends on your first day of workI went to work.

My new boss seemed very nice and she brought all this food to the staff meeting (which might not seem like a LOT of food unless you know our entire staff is only ten people).

This morning I woke up and my head was feeling worse and there were other symptoms creeping around my edges too. But still, I didn’t want to call in sick because I was looking forward to lunch with Woodsy, and besides it was only my new boss’ second day and I didn’t want to be the first person to call in sick.

But, apart from lunch with Woodsy which was lovely as always, my day sucked because my head hurt a lot and I felt tired and sore and sick. I came home after work, took a hot bath and flopped down on my bed. Duncan materialized instantly, and set to work with his own special brand of emergency first aid. He snuggled up against me, tucked his head under my chin, wrapped his big furry arm around me and turned up the volume on his biggest, rumbliest purr. I fell asleep instantly.

When I got up an hour later, I caught up a bit on my blog reading. I saw that Megan’s sick too, but she knows how to be sick in style. If I’m still sick tomorrow morning, I’m not going to work. I’m going to gather emergency supplies, wear flannel, and make the most of being sick.

Wow, I’m sick, too. I was working this week-end and I noticed that 2 co-workers (whom I hadn’t seen since last week-end) had a dry little cough like mine. Monday it was a full blown cold with sinus pain and sneezing and feeling yucky. Today it’s more of the same with a little coughing and nose bleeding thrown in as seasoning. Luckily for me I’m not due back to work until Thursday afternoon.

  • is duncan a boyfriend? (ha ha)
poor you for being sick. get well soon!

  • Zoom, I didn’t realize how sick you were. You are a tough you know what too it seems! Get better quick (after a day of good rest).

I’ve gotta cough that sounds like a furball. And my puffer and I have gotten a little too close. Not looking good for my second 5K race on Sunday. . . poor all of us!

  • My mother’s got something similar… it started like an allergy a couple of days ago, then it was a runny nose which turned into a stuffed head then into a deep cough and now it’s into her chest. She took yesterday (Monday) off work but went back on Tuesday… I figure her whole office will now have turns being sick. Good luck with this, make sure to drink lots of really cold vodka.

  • Drink lots of warm fluids and sleep bundled up … camomile tea with honey works for me when I have a cough … and warm baths always feel good. And I swear by ColdFX which is just ginseng which boosts the immune system. There … is that enough motherly advice or should I start on Vitamin C?

  • Vodka and Orange Juice. Vodka to kill the germs, Orange Juice for the vitamin C.

  • I find orange juice really dilutes the vodka… so maybe a couple of vitamin C tabs chased liberally with some really cold vodka.

  • XUP

I’m not sick, but some of that vodka with or without orange juice sounds pretty good right about now. Or mulled wine. Mulled wine is nice when you’re cold and achey and it smells up the house in a nice way.

  • I think vodka actually acts to prevent colds and flu, mostly by keeping you too incoherent to say things like “I have a cold and or flu”. I’d be willing to try the mulled wine though… maybe with a vodka chaser. And some vitamin C tablets.

  • I felt a scratchy throat start and I’ve been taking Cold FX and so far, no cold. What I’ve got to train myself to do is to keep my hands away from my face. That is really tough.
